Matthews is handing over team KDR to newcomer Dean Kittleson, it emerged today.
The KDR teamowner and #1 Driver has prompted the possibility that he may leave the team at the end of this season to pursue a career in a touring car series.
The move comes as a surprise, considering Matthews success in the races he has been able to take part in.
"I've been around and about all season, and there is a strong chance that I may not be here next season so I can pursue a career in a tintop. It was a thrill while I was here, but I'm finding I dont enjoy high powered open wheel as much as I do tintops. It's quite sad really, but I think I'll be much happier in a tintop series."
However, Matthews also stated he wanted to go out on a high
"I think I've been successful so far, and it would be great to get at least one more win in the 2 remaining races this season while I decide for definite which way my career goes. You never know, I could find time to do both depending on the schedules."
