Your high was .27. Without a limit on plank wear, one could easily use a lower car and so get more downforce. As for penalties? Hmmm...10 second time drop? 10 seconds is nothing when you look at our races. Sometimes there is like a 20 second or more time gap between drivers. What about a 30 second penalty? In F1 you would receive a disqualification for a plank that's over the limit!

Yeah, that's true.

Which is why I hate the plank so much.

I don't bother much with it personally...my setup is made for minimal plank wear, even in qualify....

I know FIA intended it but, the plank makes all the setups much slower.

Well, the true fact is that the noise bothers me

i dont really see why we should be penalising extreme plank wear, it should be upto the discretion of the user to determine how low they wanna run their car. its an advangate that all can utilize...

Excessive plank wear allows the car to get lower to the ground thus creating more downforce which in turns improves grip and in turn reduces lap times. What I'm looking into is to even up the field a bit for next year to make a more competetive championship! Granted, it's not going to make it super easy for the back of the pack to keep up with the front of the pack but it will make the pack a bit tighter I think, without all these huge gaps between times. Just look at all the results for this year. The fast drivers are still going to be fast and the slower drivers are still going to have to find ways to improve their setups and their driving.

Agree with MjF. It's not a thing that only one or two drivers can use. Everybody is free to set-up the car as low as possible. By the way, I'm recalling that discussion we had over this issue. According to everybody here but me, having the plank hitting the ground would only slow your car down. Plain physics, ain't it?

So does anyone else have any other ideas how we can reduce the gaps between times?

Using the same standard files for everyone will already work quite well...

you'd think that, because once the car grounds out, all downforce generated by the floor would disappear because the high pressure system is evaporated. the cars in real f1 only ground out just as they enter the braking zone, and only very very slightly. its probably worth that small bit of grounding just to get the car closer to the ground just before it hits...im only guessing though.

After much thought I think I will forget about adding the plank wear rule!

Glad to hear that, sounded like more hassle then it was worth. Too many rules just spoil the fun. Thats why banks are no fun, i should know i work in one

I'm actually working on the revised 2006 rules right now. I'll post them when I'm done.
