Well, Austria does have a bunch of huge scenery to show so that could be an issue. I don't believe is the other cars on the carset for instance, cause those don't get loaded into the race Have you tried turning off the overlays and the stat stuff of gpxpatch? When those things are on they usually do a heavy hit to the PO. Crowds are also bad...maybe turning mirrors off? You don't have to look behind you anyway...

Mirrors are off, I've never had them on. I use the GPx stuff but I ran a test a while back and I noticed little difference with or without them so I leave them on...

ZEP. What kind of vide chipset does your computer have. I've found that some onboard video chipsets, usually don't perform very well. My work computer is a 2ghz Althon XP with a VIA/S3G Unicrome IGP with 64MB of onboard video and I sometimes have the same issue you are talking about.
In contrast, my PIII 1ghz Toshiba Laptop with a 16MB GForce2 Chipset, runs circles around the VIA chipset and I never have any graphical problems with GP4!

I'm wondering if there's a compromise here, I can run the default game fine, would it not be possible to run the .dats from the CSM folder, and the physics + perf and run that? You'd know if I'm cheating because I wouldn't even make the first corner, plus there's no point in cheating anyway.
Would this be allowed or am I gonna have to a) suffer with an unplayable game, or b) not bother?

the important files are the .dat, physics and performance...as long as they remain WSRC standard...

Yeah, as long as you use dat, physics, performance and tweaker settings from the carset, it's ok for you to race like that.

It was never suposed to have a speed limit when in free practice mode anyway...don't see the problem. The problem was having it before, hehe
