Team Arrows presented today at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit their challenger for the 2006 season, the Arrows A26. "The car runs just fine", commented Rocha after completing 3 laps so everybody could see the car in action. "We've done serious wind-tunnel testing, because we believe fast circuits are the weak points of the A25B, and came up with a new, low nosecone design, as well as smaller and more aerodynamic sidepods. We have also changed the 2 little wings on the engine cover to a single one, bigger and more effective. Changes can also be seen on the front wing. We've changed that sthingy-like design to a smoother one, with 3 small flaps instead of the 2 big ones. The chimneys are gone too. We have opened the engine cover near the back wheels, so the heat can go away more effectively.
"But the most notable change indeed is with our sponsors. FedEx and Allianz have terminated their contracts, and so did our tyre supplier. Team Arrows and Bridgestone could not come up with an agreement after they announced that they'll be working closer to Audi on 2006. We couldn't accept receiving 2nd quality material, so we'll work with Michelin next year.
"Petrobras told us a couple of days ago that they would shorten their sponsorship on 2006, but would still provide us with top-quality fuel until the contract expires or if both parts agree in cancelling it.
"We did, however, received an enormous offer from Johnnie Walker to sponsor us for undetermined time. We happily accepted the offer, having now the scottish brand and HP playing a big role on our future."
After those words, BMW ArrowsF1 announced a unofficial laptime of 1m09.2xxs on Hungaroring and a 1m43.5xxs at Spa-Francorchamps, which gave them strong hopes for the coming season...
