Nurburing, Germany
Today Audi Motorsports showed the public their 2006 car for the year as driver Diogo Vincenzi did about 20 laps with the car at the Nurburing circuit in Germany. According to him, the car has been ready for over 3 months now, but they have been holding up the launch so that they could secure their last sponsorship deal for the year.
"We are delighted to announce that Brembo is now part of our sponsorship team. They are going to supply us with parts plus a good investment that will only help us in our quest for the 2006 Constructors Title" Said Vincenzi during the conference. Audi now boosts a good amount of sponsorship giants like Pioneer, Audi, Brembo and Bridgestone for this year, which can only mean how much pressure they'll be putting out this year. "We are here this year to win, that's for sure. All our deals so far are to lead us that way, like having Lonnie as second driver, signing a bigger deal with Bridgestone and Pioneer and now Brembo. Let's see how it'll turn out on the 19th of this month!".
Petrobras is also returning this year to provide high quality fuel and lubricants for Audi Motorsports. Audi is scheduled to test at Interlagos this week to finalize the fuel development before the first race.
The 2006 car, designated the Audi a06 will be using an Audi 3.0L v10 engine which is the followup from last year's driver's title winner. Although his best time during the presentation was 1:13.983, Vincenzi said he was running a limited version of the old engine so it is no indication of what the car can do. "Our new engines are all on Interlagos already for the test session this week. We only kept the body of our third car here for the presentation, but it'll be on the way to Brazil after we are done here too" Vincenzi explained. Still, if last year's performance is any indicator, Audi has a good change of taking the lead this year, but some of the new competitors could bring in some good competition. Vincenzi pointed Holden as being a potential Title chaser: "Holden has a good change to go well this year. Matt Finlay is a great driver and he has built an impressive team for this year. The other teams are all going through a rebuilt phase too, so I think we are not able to predict anything yet. Audi is doing our part to go well this year, so let's just hope for the best"
After the end of the conference, Vincenzi took the car for a 20 lap run to show the Black/Red Audi car, which you can see in the images below.
